Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is a growth of abnormal cancerous cells that begins in the ovaries. Ovarian tumors can be noncancerous or cancerous. Cancerous cells in the ovaries can spread to other parts of the body in two different ways:
  • Directly to other organs in the pelvis and abdomen
  • Through the bloodstream or Lymph nodes to the other parts of the body

The causes of Ovarian cancer are unknown but some scientist give their reasons:

  • Increased hormone levels before or during ovulation may stimulate the growth of abnormal cells
  • Genetic errors may occur because of the repeated "wear and tear" of the monthly release of an egg

What are the symptoms?
  • Bloating
  • Pelvic or Abdominal Pain
  • Urinary Symptoms ( Frequency or Urgency)
  • Difficulty eating or frequently

How does Ovarian Cancer affect us has women?
For some women it's more likely for them to become sterility, since the uterus, tubes and ovaries are removed, but for young patients they may decide to keep their opposite ovary and uterus to have a child, but most would recommend removing these remaining organs by about age 35 or sooner.

Be A Healthy Eater

Some ways I follow a healthy diet for myself and my child is to try to eliminate outside foods. Eating and preparing food at home would make it more healthy than fast foods. Using oils that contain good fats such as Omega 3, Olive Oil, and Canola Oil, rather than Coconut Oil, Crescco, or Butter, which are the bad fats. By preparing my food at home I can reduce my risks of having diabetes, high-blood pressure, or obesity. I can choose to have my food fresh and not constantly pre-heated. Giving my daughter slices of apples instead of cookies or carrots with peanut butter instead of chips, will make my daughter have a better eating habit. I will also reduce the consume of soda, pizza, and hamburgers, so that i can live a long and healthy life.

Street Of Dreams

My Daughter

My daughter is only one
But you can't imagen all the joy she brought to my life
The glow in her eyes and the way she smiles is what encourages me to move on
To get through all the obstacles and defeat everything that gets in my way
I never thought something so small can change your life drastically
I was once a teenager doing evreything i wanted
But now I'm a teenage mom with a whole lot of responsibilities
I'm fighting the statistics to demonstrate that I won't be one more
Nobody said it would be easy but it's not impossible
I have a motivation to be successful
A reason to wake up every morning and accomplish my dreams
Because I'm not only doing this for myself, but for the greatest gift God gave me
MY DAUGHTER!!

Women's Roles in 1950s

Women's roles in the 1950s were to get married and have children. It was a norm for women to get married right after high school or in college. There was a stereotype that said that women went to college to get a M.R.S degree. Which meant to find a husband. If a woman wasen't married or engaged by the age of 20 she was considered to be an "old maids". If women were single moms they would be sent away since people considered it unacceptable and had to drop of school. If a women work to get extra money they would be considered selfish because they put themselves first instead of family. Women were supposed to stay home and taking care of the house and kids.

School Lunches

Letter

Maus

1) I think the author decided to use characters such as the cat, pig, and mice to describe different people. The mouse is usually chasen by the cat and during the holocaust Jews lived hidding from the Nazis. Which in this point the mice were the Jews and the cats were the Nazis.

2) I think the author decided to make his book in a comic book format to help the readers vizualize whats going on through out the book.

"One had better die fighting against injustice than die like a dog or a rat in a trap"

What this quote means to me is that it's better to die fighting than not doing anything to make a change. This can also apply to my life because it makes me realize that no matter who you are you can always make a change. All you need to do is put effort in it and really want it. For example, people of color are being discriminated and a lot of us suffer from it. People are apeaking up and fighting for their rights. They're fighting for their people.

Fannie Lou Hamer

"what was the point of being scared? The only thing they could do to me was kill me and it seemed like they'd been trying to do that a little bit at a time ever since I could remember"

What this qoute means to me is that she couldn't be more scared than she was. She lived almost her whole live scared. She suffered from threats and violence because she wanted a change in the governmet. Obviously the whites hated her because she would stand up for her people. She encouraged African Americans' to speak up for their rights. She has been through a lot and the worsest she expected from it was death. She would have really bad beatings and phone calls threating her but she never stopped.

Gentrification

Where middle-class takes over a poor area and make it "better". They build homes but make it expensive, so that poor people would move out because they can't afford to live there. One example would be at Market st, people are destroying their homes but making new ones. By building new homes their raising up the cost of rent. For example, if the rent before cost 1,200, now it would raise up to 1,900.

Kite Runner

***Who was your favorite character and why? which character did you dislike through out the story and why?***

My favorite character through out the story was Hassan becuase he was very loyal. He demonstrated what real friendship is, even though he went through alot of obstacles in his life. The character I disliked was Amir because he was a coward. For example, when he saw Hassan being rapped by three bullies he just stood back and watched. Then when he found out that Hassan was his half brother and his son was his nephew, he didn't want to go for him. Rahim Kan had to lie to him telling him to go get him from Afghanistan (know that he is an orphan) and to drop him of with a couple that wants him. Rahim Kan lied to him and I personally think that Amir is very ungratefull of what he has.

**which is your most favorite scene in the book? In the movie?**

My favorite scene in the movie is when you see Amir and Hassan flying their kites. They seem very happy and full of joy. For example, When Hassan says "For you a thousand times over". I also love the ending when Amir tell Sorabh the same thing is father had told him once.

**Which did you enjoy better the novel or the movie??**
I enjoyed better the book because it gives you more details. The movie skips alot of stuff that were mention in the book. For example, The movie doesn't mention when Amir whent to go see Hassan. That's when Amir finds out Hassan had a son. I really preffered the book than the movie.

**What is the theme of the novel? What do you think was the message the author was trying to convey by writting this book?**
Through out the novel you will find alot of themes. One of the themes in the story for example is courage. The courage Amir had to go back to Afghanistan to find his nephew Soraph. The courage he had to fight with Assef, so that he would leave Soraph free.I think the message the author was trying to send is that everyone has a point on their life were they demonstrate bravery. Were they can show a little bit of courage andstand up not only for themselves but who they love.
